Field Meetings

BREEDING RANDOM SQUARE SURVEY
Help us build a picture of breeding bird populations.  Unlike the BTO’s Breeding Bird Survey, you do different squares.  Email peter (at) dymott9.plus.com if you’re interested and haven’t taken part before.

All Field meetings start at 9:00am unless otherwise stated. Please note some meetings will be on Saturday - please check the day! Details of meeting points are given in the Newsletter. If you are not a member but are interested in attending an event, please contact the Membership Secretary.

Sunday 4th June  7 a.m  Birds and Breakfast, Northleach Old Gaol

A public walk for those who can’t get up for the Dawn Chorus.  Booking essential: 01451 862034 (Cotswold Conservation Centre).  Full English Breakfast afterwards included in the £10 fee.

Sunday 11th June  Guiting Manor Farm, Guiting Power, SP090251

11:00  A short walk as part of Guiting Manor’s Open Farm Sunday event, and a chance to wander round land that is not normally accessed. Can we find Tree Sparrows in one of their former haunts?  Or even Dippers on the upper Windrush?

Saturday 24th June  Nightjars at Crabtree Hill, Forest of Dean  EVENING MEETING 21:15
Andrew Bluett’s Glos Naturalists Soc walk last year included excellent Nightjar views (and sounds), plus Woodcock, Tawny Owl and Wild Boar.  Bring torch and warm clothes.

Please email ac.lewis@btinternet.com if interested, also to sort out car-sharing.  (Other dates available depending on weather).

Saturday 8th July    Daneway Banks

Back to our regular 9 a.m. start after the previous meetings.  This GWT reserve is one of the few sites for the Large Blue butterfly.  Rough grassland plus Siccaridge Wood, a river and a disused canal all make for fascinating habitat.
